Men's Soccer Back to Life in Victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – An early goal may have put Lynn University's men's soccer team down but the Fighting Knights found new life with goals by Stefan Wolf and Kyle Conrad for a 3-1 victory on Friday afternoon.  Conrad scored twice for LU, including his eighth career game-winner, while Ewan Clarke added a pair of assists.  The Blue & White improve to 6-3-0 overall.

Conrad has seven goals, one assist and 15 points this season and is now only 11 points shy of becoming just the fourth Fight Knight inprogram history to reach the century mark.

Embry-Riddle (3-3-0) was able to go on top of LU quite early in thematch as Ryan Maloney scored with 4:19 on the scoreboard.  Ross Carmichael dribbled up the midfield on a counter attack and fed a ball through the Knights' defense to Maloney.  The Eagles' forward had open real estate in front of him and knocked in a shot to the right post for the goal.

Lynn had some trouble pushing forward until the 39th minute of play.  Clarke set up the goal with a short cross into the box for Wolf, who turned left on his defender for a one-on-one with keeper Kile Kennedy and smashed home his shot to even the game at one.

A mere 45 seconds later the Blue & White would take the lead.  Luke Magill intercepted a wayward ERU pass just outside the midfield circle and moved laterally from left to right before turning upfield on the right sideline.  The junior midfielder sent in a cross to the top of the box where Clarke was waiting to head the ball on net.  Kennedy made a punch save to the left post but Conrad was there ready to head in the game-winner.

The Eagles made a late push to even the score up late in the second half, getting a couple of close shots on goal only to see AlessandroSalvatore turn them away.  Salvatore ended the contest with three saves.

Lynn ended any hopes of a comeback by Embry-Riddle with a goal in the 89th minute.  With ERU pressing forward, Scott Gordon was able to find Robert Carrick well up-field on the left sideline.  Carrick took a couple of touches before playing a give-and-go with Clarke near the top left corner of the 18-yard box.  On the return pass, Carrick sent a cross to Conrad on the right post, who scissor-kicked his shot into an open net.

The Fighting Knights return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 6, at 7 p.m. when they travel to Miami Shores, Fla., to battle their long-time rivals Barry University.  Fans can follow all of the action live by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.com and selecting "Game Central."
