BOCA RATON, Fla. – Kyle Conrad's quest to become the fourth player inprogram history with 100 career points is nearly complete after scoring three times and adding an assist in a 5-0 Lynn University men's soccer victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday afternoon. The 15th-ranked Fighting Knights also continued their dominance against the Sailfish as they moved to 14-0 all-time against their neighbors from the north. Lynn improves to 8-4 on the season.
Conrad's seven points tied his career-high and gave him a team-high 25 on the season and 99 for his career, one shy hitting the century mark. He has four matches remaining to hit 100. Jakob Lorentzon (1992-95) was the last Fighting Knights to reach 100 points and ended as the program's all-time leader with 210.
The senior from Jensen Beach, Fla., missed his first opportunity to get on the scoreboard. Five minutes into the action, Conrad took a long pass from Scott Gordon near the top of the box, side-stepped a defender and ripped a shot to the left side but keeper Jonathan Strunk made a cleat save.
Luckily, Robert Carrick made in 1-0 four minutes later when he headed in a cross from Scott McCubbin for his first career goal. Lynn's offense was stymied until the 37th minute of play when Conrad scored his first of the day. Brent Lawler collected a loose ball inside the Knights' midfield circle, fed a pass to Joe Cundall on the right wing and watched as his teammate's cross was headed by Conrad into the right side netting to make it 2-0.
Palm Beach Atlantic (5-4-0) got four quality shots off in the first half but all were saved by LU keeper Alessandro Salvatore. The Sailfish's four second-half attempts all missed their mark.
Conrad found the back of the net again at 72:40 off a header. Roberto Cadihle raced down the right sideline, spun around a defender, then delivered a perfect cross just over the hands of Strunk. Conrad was ready and waiting at the back post for the easy goal.
Lynn's midfielder finished off his performance in the 77th minute with his final volley. On a pass very similar to the first goal, Cundall lifted a cross from the right wing and Conrad made a diving attempt to the left post for a 4-0 advantage.
Ewan Clarke's goal at 86:28 gave LU its highest scoring match of the season. Conrad got involved with this score as well, heading a punt by Salvatore to Tommy Guerra. Guerra one-touched a pass to the top of the box where Clarke ripped a shot past Strunk.
The Blue & White play their third match in five days on Saturday, October 16, at 3 p.m. when they host Florida Southern. Fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.com and selecting "Game Central."
