Lakeland, Fla. - The Lynn University volleyball team (13-7) fell to West Florida in four sets (25-17, 22-25, 27-25, 25-22) Friday afternoon at the Jenkins Field House on the campus of Florida Southern College. Kala Abdell and Haley Pratt led the Fight Knights with 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
Sophomore setter Abbey Brokop recorded a career-high 21 assists on the day while senior Devon Woolard tallied 24. Senior Sophie Gagnon also blocked eight Argonauts' swings on the day while Lacy Redwine collected 23 digs.
Lynn hit an impressive .303 in the first set, but West Florida swung better, hitting .457. The opener was neck and neck throughout but the Argos went on a 7-0 run to close the set, 25-17. Despite the loss, Semprini and Abdell were bright spots as Semprini recorded four kills on ten swings while Abdell went a perfect three-for-three.
In a defensive struggle in the second, Lynn took the set, 25-22. West Florida got off to a strong start, but somewhere midway through, the Lynn defense adjusted, tallying four blocks and holding the Argos to a .071 percentage. Gagnon assisted on all four Knights' blocks and added a kill while Abdell added two kills and a pair of blocks.
The third set was as closely contested as it comes but West Florida got the victory, 27-25. Lynn actually held a 16-11 lead but the Argos rallied to tie the game at 21. The teams traded points but a kill and a Fighting Knights attack error gave UWF the victory. Lynn actually had two more kills in the third than West Florida, including a perfect six-for-six effort from Pratt.
