BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University's men soccer team fell to Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Southern 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Ewan Clarke scored the only goal for the Fighting Knights, who drop to 8-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the SSC.
The Blue & White started off with strong play as Kyle Conrad opened thematch with a goal but the celebration was halted when the sideline referee made an off-sides call. With a minute left in the first half, Florida Southern (8-3-1, 3-3-0 SSC) gained momentum by receiving a penalty kick. Ashley Holmes put the Moccasins up heading into the locker room after burying his shot to the left.
Joey Maxson was inches away from tying the game up in the 54th minute after beating his defender inside the box and looping a shot attempt over keeper John Jonsson towards the open net. Holmes, though, kept FSC's lead when he made a sliding attempt to clear the ball of the goal line.
Zack Hofstetter put FSC ahead 2-0, 10 minutes into the second half, when he scored from 30-yards out. But Lynn battled back with a goal 10 minutes later. Clarke took a pass from Robert Carrick at the top of the box and got his shot over the keepers head to cut the deficit in half.
The next 25 minutes was an emotional clash with Lynn attempting seven shots and forcing Florida Southern to play on its heels. Unfortunately, LU could not break through and FSC took the victory.
Lynn outshot Florida Southern 21-9 and had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
