Lakeland, Fla. - The Lynn University volleyball team (14-7) defeated West Alabama in straight sets (25-13, 25-6, 25-16) Saturday afternoon at the Jenkins Field House on the campus of Florida Southern College. The Fighting Knights held the Tigers to a -.041 hitting percentage for the match.
Offensively, the Knights had a well-balanced attack and were led by seven kills by Devon Woolard and Sophie Gagnon. Woolard hit .875 for the match and collected 26 assists. Gagnon had a game-high 11 points as she added three blocks and a pair of aces. Haley Pratt and Katie Bradley both had six kills while Pratt had a game-high seven blocks.
The Fighting Knights dominated the opening set, 25-13, outhitting the Tigers .462 to .038. Led by three kills and an ace by Mallory Deneen, Lynn jumped out to a 14-7 lead. After a UWA timeout, Woolard went on the offensive with three kills and 11 assists. Deneen had eight total points in the set on five kills, a pair of blocks and two aces. Pratt led the Blue & White defensively with three blocks but she also contributed with a trio of kills.
Lynn kept it up in the second holding UWA to -.182 hitting while swinging .444 to cruise to a 25-6 victory. Bradley led the squad with four kills while Gagnon and Woolard connected on three apiece. The defense also posted four blocks in the frame behind two each by Pratt, Gagnon and Chelsea Semprini.
The third set also went to Lynn as the Knights were paced by three kills apiece by Kala Abdell, Semprini and Gagnon. Lynn also received contributions from Natalie Harville, Kara Bailey and Michelle Jordan as they hit .273 in the deciding set.
