Miami Shores, Fla. – The Lynn University volleyball team dropped its Sunshine State Conference match to Barry University, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23 Tuesday night at Barry's Health & Sports Center. The Fighting Knights fall to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the SSC.
Barry (6-1, 3-0 SSC) took the first set, 25-19, as Julia Teixeira, Ady Alcantara and Lanie Muys combined for 12 of the team's 13 kills. The Blue & White, despite being outhit .216 to .150 in the first frame, played solid defense with Kala Abdell and Sophie Gagnon assisting on three blocks apiece. Lacy Redwine also had eight digs in the opening stanza for LU and contributed 17 in total.
The second set saw the lead flip multiple times, but Barry closed out strong to take the frame, 25-20. Haley Pratt got involved in Lynn's block party with three blocks while Teixeira recorded another five kills for the Bucs.
Lynn dropped the third set, 25-23, despite a valiant comeback effort as they came back from a six-point differential to close within one at 24-23. The teams traded points early on, tying six times in the games' first 14 points. Barry then went on a 9-3 run to take a 16-10 lead, their largest advantage of the set.
