Pensacola, Fla. – Lynn University's men's soccer team couldn't maintain a 1-0 lead following a one hour lightning delay, falling 2-1 to West Florida on Saturday night. Kyle Conrad scored his fifth goal of the season as the Fighting Knights dropped to 5-3 overall.
A scoreless game was broken in the 17th minute of play after a misplay by Argonauts' keeper Ramon Sealy. Luke Magill served a perfect free kick from the right wing into the box and over the UWF defense. Sealy came out to make a play but watched as Conrad beat him to the punch and headed in the ball for the score.
Conrad has 11 points on the year and is now 15 shy of becoming the fourth player in program history with 100 career points.
The Blue & White had a chance to go up 2-0 just moments into the second half when Stefan Wolf was tripped up inside the box giving his team a penalty kick. But Sealy stopped Joe Cundall's shot with a kick save then shot up to make punch save on Scott McCubbin's follow-up attempt.
Nick Salafrio knotted the game at one after a one-hour lightning delay. Daniel Martini's initial shot was saved but Alessandro Salvatore couldn't hold onto the ball and Salafrio was there to put back the rebound.
West Florida carried its momentum til the end, pulling out the victory with 4:26 remaining in the match. Andre Verardi took in a pass at the top spun left of his defender and struck a left-footed shot to the right post for the goal.
Lynn was outshot 17-13 with UWF having a 10-4 corner kick advantage. Salvatore logged six shots to Sealy's four.
The Blue & White return to action on Tuesday, September 28, at 7 p.m. when they play Johnson & Wales on the campus of Barry University. Fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.com and selecting the "Game Central" icon.
