Melbourne, Fla. – Lynn University's women's basketball team lost 72-48 to Florida Tech in Sunshine State Conference action Wednesday night. Marquis Lee led the Fighting Knights in scoring with 18 points as the team drops to 7-7 overall and 1-3 in the SSC.
Lynn struggled from the field throughout the game, shooting just 24.2% in the first half and 31% for the game. An eight-minute scoring drought in the first period allowed Florida Tech (13-3, 2-2 SSC) to pull away and build a double-digit lead. Lee, though, tried to jumpstart her teammates late in the half, scoring seven of her nine first-half points in a two minute span to cut the deficit to 10.
With two of the top defenders in the Sunshine State Conference on display in Quanisha Dixon and Lynisha Nelson, both teams had problems hanging onto the ball. Dixon logged three of her four first half steals in the beginning minutes of the game and got another to halt the Panthers' momentum. She finished with five steals.
The second half started slowly for LU as it did not get its first field goal until three minutes into play. Three times the Knights had the opportunity to bring the deficit to single-digits but the Panthers Ashton McClairen was there to halt any momentum. She closed out play with a game-high 23 points. Brianuna Hagins logged the contest's only double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Blue & White return to action on Saturday, January 15, at 5:30 p.m. when they travel to Lakeland, Fla., to take on Florida Southern. Fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.comand selecting "Game Central."
