Box Score St. Augustine, Fla. – A late score brought Lynn University's men's soccer team to within one goal but the comeback bid was stalled as Flagler took a 3-2 victory on Tuesday night. Roberto Cadihle notched his second goal of the season while Julian Halder found the back of the net for the first time in his career. The Fighting Knights drop to 7-3-0 overall.
Lynn took a 1-0 lead into the locker room following a goal by Cadihle in the 37th minute. The junior from Johannesburg, South Africa, ripped a shot from 25-yards out on the left wing to just under the left side of the crossbar.
Unfortunately for LU, Flagler (6-3-1) used a pair of second-half free kicks to take the lead. The first came 1:54 into the period when Johan Bergfeld dropped a free kick into the box for an open Will Fransden who buried his shot past keeper Matt DiCerbo.
Flagler's second goal came off an Eammon Murphy's direct kick from the right side of the field to put the Saints on top 2-1. Zach Shanahan then closed out Flagler's scoring binge with the eventual game-winner. Taking in a pass from the right side, Shanahan tucked his attempt inside the right post for the score.
Lynn put the pressure on over the final 27 minutes but could not get another shot past Camp Bissell. Halder finally got one through at 87:05 after he collected a deflected shot from Sam Shorrocks and ripped a shot to the left side.
Trying furiously to send the game to overtime, LU had a chance with a corner kick at 89:03 but the ensuing pass sailed past the box. Lynn outshot Flagler 19-10 and won the corner kick battle 5-3.
The Fighting Knights return to action on Saturday, October 8, at 7 p.m. when they travel to St. Leo, Fla., to battle the Lions of St. Leo.
