Men's Basketball Victoriously Closes Out 2011

Saint Leo, Fla.—With a 60 percent shooting effort from the field, Lynn University's men's basketball team defeated the Saint Leo Lions 74-57 and remains perfect in Sunshine State Conference play.

Michel Vidal tallied 12 points in the contest on a 2-for-5 shooting clip. Vidal also led both squads in the rebounding category with 10. Slobodan Miljanic added 14 point while Josh Garcia contributed 11 with six assists.

The Lions started the game on an 8-2 run before Lynn (8-5, 2-0) could cut the deficit down two four on a Bo Jukic jumper with 16:21 left in the first half. The Lions countered with eight straight points to stretch their advantage to 12 with the score Saint Leo 16, Lynn 4 with 14:13 remaining in the first half.

Down by 12, the Knights answered with an unbelievable 21-0 run to go up on the Lions 25-16 with just over 8:00 minutes left in the first period.  Brandon Smith connected on back-to-back threes during the span and Jukic added five points.

Late in the first half, Saint Leo closed the gap to seven but the Knights rattled off six-straight over the last 02:22 to enter the intermission up 42-29.   

LU started the second half with an 8-0 run and posted a 50-29 advantage with just under two minutes gone in the period to take its biggest advantage of the game.

The Lions cut the Lynn lead down to single digits with 14:50 remaining in the game on a Spenser Mitchell layup. Just under three minutes later, Lynn took its advantage back up to 17 on two Preye Preboye free throws.

Lynn continued to pull away from Saint Leo and boasted a 21 point lead with 05:46 left in regulation and ended the contest with a 17 point win.

Lynn's almost 61 percent shooting from the floor is its highest mark of the season and the 53.8 percent clip from behind the arc is its second highest of the season. The Blue & White held Saint Leo to 40 percent shooting from the field.

The Knights out-scored the Lions in points in the paint 34-10 while out-rebounding Saint Leo 33-22. The Blue & White held Saint Leo to zero second chance points on a mere six offensive rebounds.
