BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's women's basketball team lost for the second time this season to Florida Tech, this time by the score of 61-50 Wednesday night. Chelsea Patterson led all scorers with 19 points as the Fighting Knights dropped to 10-13 overall and 4-9 in the Sunshine State Conference.
An exchanging of baskets in the opening minutes kept the Blue & White in the contest early but Florida Tech's defense blanketed LU's offense throughout the game, forcing it into 32.8% shooting on the night.
The Panthers built up a double-digit lead with a little over six minutes remaining in the first half only to see Kira Harvey keep it a single-digitdeficit by knocking down a jumper at the top of the blocks. Unfortunately, Lynisha Nelson scored eight of her 14 points following Harvey's basket to put FIT on top 37-24 at the break.
An 11-4 run to start the second half helped Lynn put a little pressure on Florida Tech and make it a six point game, 41-35. Ashton McClairen shot down any thoughts of keeping it close, however, as she drained a three from the left corner to make it 44-35. The Knights would not get any closer the rest of the contest.
Lynn outscored Florida Tech 26-24 in the second half and forced 20 turnovers, four of which were stolen by Quanisha Dixon. She also logged 10 rebounds while Tashina Bailey posted seven rebounds and four of the team's six blocks.
