Box Score Lakeland, Fla. – Playing in front of a hostile sell-out crowd, Lynn University fell 77-67 to Florida Southern on Saturday night. Four Fighting Knights reached double-digits in points, led by Jeremy Lampkin who dropped 14 on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Lynn falls to 10-9 overall and 3-4 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Florida Southern (10-5, 4-3 SSC) was able to jump out to an early lead behind the low post presence of Brett Bailey. The Moccasins later used an 11-3 run to build up a nine-point, 26-17, advantage.
But the Blue & White battled back and kept the contest close as Lampkin was able to knock down shots in the paint and beyond the three-point arc. Back-to-back trey's by Lampkin and Jerrell Oxendine followed by a Slobodan Miljanic coast-to-coast lay-up cut the deficit to two, 28-26, and forced Florida Southern to call a time out. Miljanic made the Mocs pay after the TO, nailing a three from the right wing to knot the game at 28.
The Mocs' Seth Evans, though, came off the bench and provided a spark as he scored five consecutive points to help FSC to a 39-34 halftime lead. Evans led all scorers with 21 points.
A 12-2 run midway in the second period all but sealed LU's fate as Florida Southern was able to build a 14-point, 58-44, advantage. Consecutive threes by Brandon Smith and Oxendine helped Lynn remain close but the Mocs went 13-for-14 from the free-throw line down the stretch to halt thoughts of a comeback.
Lynn shot 38.6 percent from the field and 75 percent (15-of-20) from the line and held Florida Southern to 35.8 percent shooting. The Mocs were 25-for-29 from the charity stripe for an 86.2 clip.
Oxendine closed out play with 13 points followed by Smith with 12 and Garcia at 11. Michel Vidal added to his SSC-leading rebounding total with a game-high 14 boards while adding two blocked shots.
