Men's Basketball Rolls Over Tampa

Box Score

Tampa, Fla.—Josh Garica's 24 and Jeremy Lampkin's 16 points propelled Lynn University's men's basketball team to a 68-59 win over the Tampa Spartans on Saturday.

The 24 points from Garcia marks a season best. The senior also added four rebounds and a 3-to-1 assist to turnover ratio. Lampkin tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven.

At the first media timeout of the game, Lynn amassed a solid 10-2 lead. Tampa then posted a 10-2 run to tie things up at 12 with 13:31 left in the first half.

Lynn then rattled off back-to-back buckets from a Josh Garcia jumper and a Jeremy Lampkin three to command a five point advantage with 10:17 on the first-half clock. The Spartans tied the game once again and then took their first lead of the game with just under four minutes left.

The Blue & White knotted things up once again less than a minute later then Garcia gave Lynn a two-point tilt with 2:19 left in half number one. Lynn closed out the half with eight straight to take a 34-26 lead into the locker room.

Lynn posted a 39 percent shooting mark from the field in the first half while connecting on 4-of-12 from downtown. The Knights also capitalized at the free throw line with a perfect 8-for-8 clip.

With 18:27 remaining in the game, the Knights extended their tilt to the biggest of the game at 12 on a Michel Vidal layup. However, Tampa continued to battle and trimmed the Lynn lead down to five with 13:30 left in the game. Vidal answered right back for the Fighting Knights on the next possession to extend the advantage back to seven.

Five points would be the closest the Spartans could come as Tampa cutthe Lynn lead to five on two more occasions. At the 2:25 mark, Tampa's Terrell Pritchett converted a free throw to make it a five point game with Lynn up 59-54. On the next possession, Garcia hit his biggest shot of the game on a three with the shot clock dwindling to squelch the Spartans' comeback hopes.

DeMario Fountain also posted double-digit points with 11 followed by Vidal with nine. Vidal totaled seven rebounds while Slobodan Miljanic and Bo Jukic both contributed four points.

Lynn cruised to the win on a 40 percent shooting mark from the field and a 32 percent clip from behind the arc. The Knights' defense forced 14 Tampa turnovers and collected 13 points off the mishaps.
