Box Score

Saint Leo, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball team rebounded from a loss the previous night to knock-off Saint Leo 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 25-23) on Saturday.  Shannon Dugan had a double-double for the Fighting Knights, who improve to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in Sunshine State Conference play.

Angie Caple lead five double-digit attackers with 13 kills while hitting over .400 for the match. Lizzy Raffa hit .526 for the match and Michelle Jordan continued to be the defensive captain with 15 digs.  Abbey Brokop had 29 assists in the victory and was two digs short of a double-double. With 11 digs and 13 kills Dugan earned her first double-double of the season and the third for Lynn this weekend.

A 3-0 run for Lynn with the score knotted at 7-7 would prove to be the difference maker in the opening set.  The Fighting Knights only trailed when Saint Leo (6-4, 0-2 SSC) scored the first point.   Lynn exchanged points with the Lions for the majority of the set but finished by scoring four of the final six points to win 25-23.

Brianna Cox and Caple both had five kills, Brokop logged nine assists and the Blue & White posted a hitting percentage of .400 while committing only three attack errors.  Dugan was solid on the defensive end with seven digs.

Saint Leo would tie the game at 1-1 with a 25-23 second set victory despite LU producing more kills (18-14) and posting a better hitting percentage (.405 to .344).  But in a crucial third set, Lynn was able to wear out the Lions and grab a 2-1 lead.   The Fighting Knights began to take the momentum after a kill from Brittany Brown and a block from her and Dugan to give LU a 12-11 lead. Saint Leo would tie it up at 14 but a 5-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back Raffa kills, gave the set to Lynn..

Brown led a well-balanced attack with five kills on six attempts and Brokop continued to be a floor general with eight assists.  The Fighting Knights only had one attack error in the set.

Lynn would play from behind for most of the final set but finished strong to win 25-23. The Lions used a 3-0 run to put themselves ahead 16-13 and later extend their lead to 20-15. Two blocks by Brown and a pair of kills by Caple propelled the Fighting Knights on a 6-0 run to create match point.

In the final set Raffa led the offense with six kills. Along with one kill Mandy McIntosh had four assists while Jordan had five digs.

Lynn returns to the court Tuesday, September 25, when it squares-off against rival Barry in Miami Shores, Fla., at 7 p.m.  Fans can catch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com.  Don't forget to 'Like' us on Facebook and follow @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
