Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – Lynn University's top-ranked men's soccer team dropped its first game of the season follow a 1-0 loss to Nova Southeastern on Saturday night. The Fighting Knights outshot the Sharks 17-9 but could not find the net for the first time this season. Lynn drops to 9-1-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
The Blue & White held possession for much of the opening half and led 10-4 in shots but was turned away by Sharks goalkeeper Andrea Giombetti. Nova Southeastern (6-3-0, 2-1-0 SSC) had one meaningful shot in the first half but Matt DiCerbo made a diving stop.
The Sharks were held in check for the first 10 minutes of the second period until Matthew Ilter made a run down the right sideline. After passing the ball to the corner Stefano Fanfone chipped a curving shot over DiCerbo's head for the only goal of the match.
Lynn attempted to even the score over the final 35 minutes but the Sharks stacked their third of the field and the Fighting Knights could not battle past the logjam.
The Blue & White return to the field on Wednesday, October 3, at 6 p.m. when they travel to St. Petersburg, Fla., to face Eckerd. Fans can listen to the action at LynnFightingKnights.com. Don't forget to 'Like' us on Facebook and follow @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
