Men's Basketball Smokes Sailfish

West Palm Beach, Fla. - Lynn University's men's basketball team shrugged off its last two contests to pull out a dominating 78-50 victory at Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday night.  Jeremy Lampkin logged the first double-double of the season with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds while Shamel Akins added 14 points.  The Fighting Knights improve to 10-5 overall on the season.

Palm Beach Atlantic (1-15) was looking for a repeat performance against LU, jumping out to 6-0 and 8-3 leads behind the three-point shooting of Johnny Lantz.  But Shamel Akins and Jerrell Oxendine quickly silence the roaring crowd with back-to-back threes before Brandon Smith knotted the game at 14 with a jumper at the top of the key.

Quality shooting and timely stops helped the Blue & White close out the first half on a 28-4 run while the Fighting Knights held the Sailfish without a field goal for over six minutes.  Akins scored 11 of his points in the opening period and Lynn shot a blistering 51.6 percent from the field.

Palm Beach Atlantic had no answer in the second half, never getting any closer than 25-points.  Lampkin shinned, pulling down six rebounds and scoring eight points.  The Fighting Knights were able to control the boards with a 39-28 advantage on the glass while forcing the Sailfish into 17 turnovers.

Kaleb Clyburn and Pavle Raickovic were solid contributors in the starting lineup as well, combining for 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting.  Additionally, Reed Ridder scored eight points off the bench, hitting 2-of-3 attempts from beyond the arc.

For the game, Lynn hit 48.3 percent from the field, 42.1 percent beyond the arc and 85.7 percent at the free-throw line.  On the flip side, PBA was held to 33.3 percent shooting, including 23.5 percent from downtown.

The Fighting Knights hit the hardwood on Saturday, January 26th, at 4 p.m. when they host Nova Southeastern.  Fans can watch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.

Additionally, Lynn will be hosting its Sixth Annual Family Fun Day beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday and going through the men's and women's basketball games.  New this year is the inaugural Mini Knights Challenge obstacle adventure race. It is designed for kids 4 – 12. The first 300 kids to finish the obstacle race will receive a T-shirt and medal.  There will also be face painting, spin art, autographs, pictures with Big LU, raffles and Bingo with prizes throughout the day.
