Tampa, Fla.- The Lynn University volleyball team was defeated by No. 3 Tampa, 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-20), on Friday night in Sunshine State Conference Play.  The Fighting Knights stand at 12-6 on the season and 2-3 in SSC play while defending SSC Champion Tampa moves to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the SSC. Lizzy Raffa and Angie Caple each tallied five kills while Marissa Tandron dished out 16 assists and Claire Angelich had four kills and six blocks. 

Tampa opened the match with a 8-2 run forcing the Fighting Knights into a time out. A block by Angelich and Katie Knight would cut UT's lead to 9-4. LU continued to battle but Tampa went on a 6-2 run extending its lead to 18-9. The Spartans continued their dominance en route to a 25-12 win to take a 1-0 lead in the game. 

Raffa led the Blue & White with four kills while setter Tandron dished out eight assists. The Fighting Knights hit .138 as a team with eight kills and four errors. Angelich had two blocks and a kill to lead LU defensively.

The momentum continued from the Spartans in the second set. Lynn was able to cut the deficit to four when UT held a 10-6 lead, but a 3-0 run by the Red and Black forced the Fighting Knights into a timeout. Lynn went on a 4-1 run to trail Tampa, 17-13, but the Spartans held off the LU surge with a 25-16 win. Tampa hit .368 while holding the Fighting Knights to a .053 clip in the set. 

Lynn fired first in the third set, winning the first point for holding its first lead of the game.  Lynn would close the gap to one, at 7-8, but Tampa went on a 4-1 run and was able to slow down the tempo. Although Lynn put constant pressure on the No. 3 ranked Spartans, Tampa went on to win the set, 25-20, and take the 3-0 victory. 

Claire Angelich totaled three blocks and two kills in the third set while Tandron added five assists. LU hit .028 in the set with seven kills and six attack errors.
