Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla.-Lynn University's volleyball team finished the first half of Sunshine State Conference play with a 3-0 sweep of Saint Leo. The victory marks the third-straight win over the Lions. Sara Aloisio propelled the Fighting Knights in the upset with a career-high seven blocks and Katie Knight had a match-high 10 kills. The win advances Lynn to 16-9 and 3-5 in SSC play.
The two squads split the opening 22 points of the match before Saint Leo (16-7, 4-3 SSC) was able to get a four point cushion with an 18-14 advantage. Trailing 23-20 the Blue & White finished the set scoring the final five points, with Aloisio having two blocks in the final push. The senior from Rome, Italy, was responsible for five of Lynn's six blocks in the set.
Riding the momentum from the previous rally Lynn bested Saint Leo again to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Lynn trailed early in the set, 10-5, before going on a six point run led by valuable kills by Liga Strautniece. The Fighting Knights had another run, scoring five straight in the final stretch of the set to take the lead 21-18. Marissa Tandron had a match-high 10 assists with a pair of kills and service aces in the 25-21 victory.
Lynn concluded the match with a 25-22 win, never trailing the Lions in the final set. The Fighting Knights reached their biggest lead of the match at 17-10 after a service ace from Mandy McIntosh and kills from Knight and Strautniece. Knight finished the set with five kills, including the match-ending kill.
Knight led the squad in kills and also recorded four digs and three blocks in the sweep. Tandron had a team-high 28 assists while she and McIntosh each had two service aces. Strautniece paced the defense with 12 digs with McIntosh and Nikki Haben tallying digs a piece.
The Blue & White will next take the court at the de Hoernle Center on Saturday, October 26, for a 4 pm match against Palm Beach Atlantic.
