Volleyball Downs Barry on the Road for the First Time in Program History

Miami Shores, Fla.- Lynn University's volleyball team defeated Barry 3-0 (25-14, 27-25, 25-21) on Saturday afternoon in Miami Shores, Fla. for the first road win in program history against the Buccaneers. The Fighting Knight were led by senior Angie Caple who had 11 kills, four digs and two blocks while Claire Angelich added a career-record 10 kills of her own with a .421 hitting percentage. Marissa Tandron dished out 20 assists and Nikki Haben recorded 20 digs. Lynn advances to 12-5 on the season and 2-2 in Sunshine State Conference play. 

The Blue & White came out on fire taking an early 5-3 lead when Claire Angelich recorded the only block of the set. The Fighting Knights rushed to a 18-12 lead which forced Barry to call timeout. The dominance continued throughout the match as BU was unable to close the gap to any more than four. A kill by Angie Caple put LU up 22-13 before Lynn scored its final point on an attack error by the Bucs. 

Lizzy Raffa led the Blue & White with five kills on eight attempts with no errors to open the match. Tandron dished out 12 assists while freshman Katie Knight added four kills of her own. As a team the Fighting Knights had a .355 hitting percentage with 15 kills and were able to hold Barry to a .115 clip with only seven kills 

Trailing the Blue & White by one, the Bucs entered the second set with speed. They danced to a 7-3 before the Knights rallied to take a 10-9 lead. The Black & Red took a four point lead at 18-14 forcing head coach Lynze Roos to burn her final timeout. With Barry serving set-point in the Bucs favor at 24-21, the Fighting Knights came from behind to take the set 27-25. 

Caple paced the Lynn offense with four kills in the win despite the team hitting .075 to the Bucs .159. LU had 14 kills to Barry's 11 but the Fighting Knights made 10 attack errors. 

Lynn recorded 18 kills in the final set with Caple recording six of her own. The Fighting Knights held Barry to a .158 clip in the 25-21 win securing a 3-0 sweep over the Buccaneers. 

The win marks the first time the Blue & White beat Barry on the road in the SSC South Florida rivalry. Lynn continues the stretch of SSC road games when the Fighting Knights   take on Tampa at 7pm on Friday, October 11.
