Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's volleyball team dropped its final game of the regular season 3-0, (25-15, 26-24, 25-18), to No. 1 Tampa on Saturday afternoon. Liga Strautniece led the Fighting Knights with a team-high nine kills while senior Angie Caple finished the day with eight. Marissa Tandron dished out 25 assists while Nikki Haben led with a team-high 17 digs.
Lynn was neck-and-neck with the Spartans throughout the opening set before Tampa pulled ahead and finished on a 10-4 run to win the set 25-15. Strautniece led the team with five kills while Tandron dished out nine assists. The Spartans had a .333 attack percentage while holding Lynn to a .102 clip.
The second set was much of the same back-and-forth action as Lynn and Tampa exchanged the lead multiple times when three consecutive kills by Angie Caple pulled Lynn ahead. The Blue & White took a 23-19 lead but Tampa came back to win the set 26-24. Caple led the team with five kills on eight attempts with only attack error while Tandron dished out seven assists. Tampa out killed Lynn 15-11 and each team had seven attack errors.
Despite taking an early lead in the set, the Blue & White could not keep up with the fast pace offense Tampa was providing. The Spartans hit a .533 clip with 17 kills and only one error while Lynn had its best offensive set of the match with a .250 clip.
Prior to the game head coach Lynze Roos recognized seniors Mandy McIntosh, Sara Aloisio and Angie Caple who all played their final game for the Blue & White. McIntosh had a pair of service aces today and added six digs to close out her three-year career at Lynn. Aloisio had five kills and four blocks finishing her career ranked 4th all-time in career blocks per set. Caple had eight kills with a .263 clip in the loss and will graduate ranked 8th all-time in career kills.
Lynn University finishes the regular season 18-16 overall and 5-11 in the Sunshine State Conference and will lose just three members from this season's squad before the 2014 season.
