Men's Basketball Can't Hold On against Saint Leo

BOCA RATON, Fla.-Lynn University's men's basketball team lost it's fourth straight game to the visiting Lions of Saint Leo University on Wednesday night. The Knights were led by senior Shamel Akins, who scored 14 points in the 75-56 loss.

LU scored first with a jumper by senior Jeremy Lampkin. The lead would change four times over the course of the first half with Lynn taking and eight-point lead three times before heading into the locker room ahead 36-27.

Lynn shot an impressive 57.7 percent from the field in the opening half. Kevin Ohen lead the Knights with nine points and four rebounds.  The Blue and White grabbed 15 rebounds in the first half while Kaleb Clyburn dished out four assists.

The Lions came out of the break hot, taking the lead at 14:25 after a layup from Stephane Beneche. After a trey from Slobodan Miljanic at 14:09, the Lions would go on a 17-0 run that would last over eight minutes. Saint Leo took it's biggest lead with 25 seconds remaining, of 21 points. The visitors finished the game with eight consecutive free throws to secure their 19 point victory. 

The Fighting Knights shot only 22.2 percent from the field in the second half, and a weak 14.3 percent from behind the arc. Miljanic scored a team-high eight points in the final half. LU pulled down 18 rebounds and Saint Leo grabbed 23. The Lions also shot an game-high 62.5 percent from the field in the half. 

Pavle Raickovic added nine points and six rebounds for the Knights while Lampkin added six. The loss leaves Lynn at an even 10-10 overall, 2-8 in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo advances to 8-2 in the SSC and 16-4 overall. 

Lynn travels to Tampa on Saturday, February 9 for it's second showdown with the Spartans this season. Tip off is set for 4 pm. Last time they met the Knights defeated the then No. 20 Spartans  by 16, at home. Miljanic scored 21 points in the 76-60 victory.
