Men's Hoops Season Ends at SSC Tournament

Box Score

Kissimmee, Fla. – Lynn University's 2013 season came to a conclusion following a 74-49 loss to the University of Tampa in the opening round of the Sunshine State Conference Championship.  Slobodan Miljanic paced the Fighting Knights with a team-high 15 points while Shamel Akins and Brandon Smith added 12 points apiece.  Lynn ends the year 11-16 overall.

Neither team was able to build up much of a lead in the early minutes of the contest.  Miljanic converted on a three for the first LU points and later ran through traffic for a lay-up, keeping the game close at 10-7 for Tampa.  But the Spartans would go on a 10-0 run to go ahead 20-9.

Miljanic and Akins combined on the team's next eight points only to see Anthony Griffis respond with two baskets and a dunk.  Griffis led all scorers with 26 points.  Lynn trailed 35-25 at the half.

The Blue & White gained some ground in the second period but with one step forward, they took two steps back.  A layup by Pavle Raickovic was followed by a technical foul and later Jerrell Oxendine closed the gap to six, 40-34, with two shots at the line only to see Tampa start a 19-3 run.

Lynn shot 30.8 percent from the field while UT hit 59.6 percent of its shots.

The Fighting Knights graduate Akins, Miljanic and Jeremy Lampkin but returns nine letter winners, including Oxendine, Smith, Kevin Ohen and Kaleb Clyburn.
