Kissimmee, Fla. – March Madness took another top-seeded team down as Lynn University's second-seeded women's basketball team was upset 68-50 to No. 7 seed Saint Leo in the quarterfinals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.  Kira Harvey topped all scorers with 16 points and Zachara Bailey chipped in eight points.  The Fighting Knights drop to 18-9 overall and now awaits their fate in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Saint Leo (13-14) was plagued by early fouls, sending Charla Nelson-James to the line four times in the opening minute and a half.  Lynn could not capitalize though and trailed 6-2 until Shatorria Baker ran half court, spotted up and drained a three from the top of the arc and Amanda Schultz followed with a baseline jumper.

The Lions and Fighting Knights exchanged baskets until a 16-0 run pushed SLU's lead into double-digits.  Lynn's defense brought it back into the game over the final 1:07 with three steals and four points to make it a 31-23 deficit at the break.

Unfortunately, LU's cold shooting proved the end as it shot 26.7 percentin the second half and 27.4 percent for the game.  Saint Leo also out-rebounded Lynn 51-38.

Named the SSC's Player & Defensive Player of the Year earlier in the day, Harvey finished 5-of-18 from the field but also added five rebounds, four steals and two blocks.  Zachara Bailey was 3-for-4 from the field and Nelson James pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Fighting Knights are fourth in the NCAA South Region rankings with the top-eight teams advancing to the NCAA Tournament March 15-18, at the No. 1 seed.  Check back to LynnFightingKnights.com for NCAA Tournament information.
