Seeing Double: Vollyball's Tandron and Knight Record Double-Doubles in Win over Eckerd

BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Lynn University volleyball team defeated Eckerd, 3-1 (25-19, 14-25, 25-23, 25-18), on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights were led by freshman duo Katie Knight and Marissa Tandron, who both recorded double-doubles. Lynn advances to 11-4 overall while picking up its first Sunshine State Conference win of the season. 

The Blue & White controlled the opening set against the Eckerd, who was ranked second in the SSC's preseason poll after a 2012 NCAA Tournament appearance. A 7-3 run by the Fighting Knights secured the victory with a 25-19 decision in their favor. Senior Angie Caple led the offense with five kills while Tandron tallied 12 assists, three kills, and a block. 

The Tritons capitalized on attack errors by LU, en route to a 25-14 win in the second set, tying the match at 1-all. Eckerd posted its best hitting percentage of the game with 14 kills and no errors for a .483 clip. Lynn hit only .182 in the set with Caple leading the way. 

With the match tied, Lynn was able to regain momentum with a 25-23 victory in set three. Trailing early, LU went on a 7-1 run to cut Eckerd's lead to three. The lead would change three times before the Blue & White emerged victorious with a 25-23 win. Caple had seven kills with no errors and Nikki Haben recorded 11 digs in the set.

With the 2-1 advantage, the Fighting Knights kept the high-energy intact in the fourth set. After trailing 15-12, Lynn came from behind for a 25-18 victory, to take the match 3-1. Lynn was able to capitalize on 12 attack errors by the Tritons while recording 10 kills of its own. 

LU snapped Eckerd's six-game win streak while handing the Tritons their first conference loss of the season. Tandron was one dig shy of a triple-double with 10 kills, 39 assists and nine digs. Tandron led the team with a .750 clip only making one attack error. Caple led the team with 17 kills while Knight added 10 of her own and 17 digs and Haben recorded a match-high 24 digs in Lynn's first win against Eckerd since 2010. 

The Fighting Knights hit the road on Friday, October 4, when they will face Florida Tech before heading south to Barry on September 5.
