Box Score St. Petersburg, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball team ended the first half of Sunshine State Conference play with a 3-0 sweep (28-26, 25-21, 25-19) over Eckerd on Saturday afternoon. The victory is the first win at Eckerd since the 2010 season. With the win Lynn improves to 7-8 overall and 3-5 in the SSC.
Elyse Fleck's posted 13 kills on a .500 clip in the sweep. Claire Angelich had six kills with a .455 hitting percentage and six total blocks. Marissa Tandron helped the offense with 29 assists.
On the defensive side Nikki Haben chipped 10 digs, followed by Katie Knight with nine.
Despite playing for behind for the bulk of the set, the Fighting Knights were able to take the first set. Trailing by as many as five Lynn fought back and did not have a lead in the opening set until it was 26-25. Ashlan Kelly served the final point of the frame with an ace.
In similar fashion as the prequel Lynn trailed by four at 14-10 but quickly knotted the score at 15-15. In the final stretch the Fighting Knights scored five of the final seven porints to go up 2-0.
From the beginning of the third set Lynn grabbed the lead and maintained it. The Fighting Knights had their biggest lead of the evening at seven when they reached match point at 24-17. Eckerd tried to make a rally with two points but Fleck ended that with a kill. For the finale the Blue & White posted a .370 hitting percentage.
