Tampa, Fla. – Lynn University took on the number one team in division two on Friday evening, losing to the University of Tampa 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-18). With the loss Lynn falls to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Elyse Fleck led the offense with eight kills while Marissa Tandron was the most consistent with a .500 clip and 20 assists. Nikki Haben paced the defense with nine digs.

Lynn surrendered the opening eight points to Tampa and failed to close the gap. The Spartans held the visitors to a -.081 percentage in he first set.

A different Fighting Knights team took the court in the second set as they went point-for-point with the top team in the nation. With the strong start Lynn was able to take their first lead of the night at 4-3 and again at 10-9, however Tampa scored five straight after and led the rest of the frame. Lynn hit a .308 clip in the loss with 12 kills. Tandron had four kills and eight assists in the set.

Facing elimination Lynn started the third set with two straight points to take their biggest lead of the night, however the Fighting Knights could not keep up the pace and found themselves trailing 15-9 in the middle of the stanza. Fleck did all she could to try and keep her team in the game with three kills but a zero hitting percentage by the team prevented the comeback.
