Volleyball Sweeps Barry on the Road

Miami Shores, Fla. – Lynn University volleyball played their final road game of the 2014 regular season, defeating Barry University 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-22) with the win Lynn improves to 12-11 overall and 5-7 in Sunshine State Conference play.

With the win Lynn completes its first sweep of the Buccaneers in volleyball history. 

Katie Knight fueled the offense with nine kills. Morgan Dulaney was second on the squad with eight kills.

Marissa Tandron posted 28 assists with 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Nikki Haben led the defense with 25 digs in the victory. Liga Strautniece joined Haben and Tandron with double-digit digs with 10.

At the net Lydia West was involved in all nine blocks, assisting on seven with a pair of solo blocks.

The opening set was a back-and-forth affair for the bulk of play. Trailing behind at the start the Fighting Knights flipped the script with a 5-0 run to go up 6-3. With a tied score of 18-18, Lydia West and Lizzy Raffa provided back-to-back kills to give Lynn the lead. Facing set point the Buccaneers scored three points to make it a 24-23 contest before Morgan Dulaney ended the frame.

Lynn was in control during the second stanza, only trailing for five plays. Using their best offensive game, 14 kills on a .281 clip, the Blue & White overpowered the Buccaneers. With a one point lead at 20-19 the Fighting Knights scored five straight to go up two sets.

In the finale Barry started strong creating a 10-7 lead, but Lynn quickly scored three to knot up the score. With the score tied 11 the Fighting Knights scored five straight to go ahead, and never trailed again.
