Box Score Boca Raton, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball team concluded the 2014 regular season on Friday night with a 3-0 sweep of Eckerd (25-16, 25-23, 25-19). With the win Lynn improves to 15-12 overall and 8-8 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Senior Elyse Fleck had 10 kills in her final home game, tied with Lydia West for the most on the squad. Fellow senior Nikki Haben paced the defense with 16 digs to lead the team. Liga Strautniece and Lizzy Raffa combined for 13 digs in their finales.
Marissa Tandron posted 36 assists in the victory.
The Fighting Knights set the tone of the evening in the opening set, hitting .552 as a unit. Despite trailing 3-0 to start, Lynn quickly responded and flipped it to a three point lead at 10-7. With the score at 12-10 the Blue & White scored seven-straight to put the opening frame out of reach.
Eckerd (12-17, 3-12 SSC) threatened in the second game, leading 21-13. The home team managed to rally with nine-straight points to retake the lead at 22-21. After exchanging the following two points Strautniece served Lynn's first service ace of the night and gave her team set point.
The third set was the closest, with 10 tied scores in the game. The final two points came from sophomores Claire Angelich and Katie Knight, who had back-to-back kills to end the night.
The senior class has had a huge impact on the volleyball program. Haben finished her career with 1418 digs, the fourth-most in program history. Raffa leaves fourth in service aces with 101 and ninth in kills with 660 while Fleck finishes with a career hitting percentage of .282, seventh in Lynn history.
