Volleyball Falls to Rollins in Three Sets

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's volleyball team fell in three sets, (25-18, 27-25, 25-19), to Rollins on Friday night in the de Hoernle Center. The Fighting Knights fall to 18-15 overall and 5-10 in the Sunshine State Conference while the Tars advance to 22-9 and 9-6 in the SSC this season. Marissa Tandron had a double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs. 


The Blue & White trailed early in the opening set before falling 25-18, giving Rollins a 1-0 lead in the match.  Liga Strautniece led the team in kills with four. Tandron dished out eight assists and a team-high six digs. Rollins out-hit Lynn with 16 kills holding the Fighting Knights to a .122 clip. 


The Fighting Knights came alive in the second set forcing the Blue & Yellow into extra points. Lynn trailed 2-0 in the match after the second set. The Tars were able to capitalize on 10 attack errors by the Blue & White holding them to a .064 clip in the set. Haben had a set-high six digs while Tandron dished out another 10 helpers. 


Rollins took an early 5-1 lead in the third set, before Lynn was able to close the gap to one at 17-16. RC went on to win 25-19 to complete the sweep. Attack errors once again plagued the Fighting Knights as they made only seven kills on 42 attempts. 


Lynn had a .064 clip in the loss while Rollins posted a .244 hitting percentage and were led by Camille Indest who had a game-high 13 kills. April Jackson led the way in assists with 37 for the Tars while Collyn Welsch had a match-high 20 digs. 


Lynn was led offensively by Strautniece who had eight kills while Angie Caple and Lizzy Raffa each added six kills. Haben and Tandron both had 23 digs in the loss and Caple and Claire Angelich each recorded four blocks. 


Lynn will take the court for one last time in the regular season on Saturday, November 23, when the Fighting Knights host No. 1 Tampa at 2pm. Before the match Coach Roos and the volleyball team will honor seniors Angie Caple, Mandy McIntosh and Sara Aloisio prior to first serve.
