Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball team lost on Saturday to the top-ranked Tampa Spartans 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-19), ending their winning-streak at three matches. With the loss Lynn drops to 13-12 overall and 6-8 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Elyse Fleck paced the offense with 11 kills and one block. Marissa Tandron filled up the stat sheet with six kills on a .556 clip, 27 assists and seven digs. Morgan Dulaney also had six kills.
Nikki Haben led all players with 16 digs, followed by Liga Strautniece and Katie Knight who both had nine.
In the opening 24 points Lynn went toe-to-toe with Tampa, forcing seven ties in that span. With a 12-11 advantage for the Fighting Knights the Spartans took control with four straight points.
Set two began with a 6-3 lead for the Blue & White, but Tampa caught up quickly and took their first lead of the frame at 10-9. After trailing 16-12 Lynn managed to rally and knot the score up 17-17 but the visitors scored eight of the final nine points to put the Fighting Knights down two sets.
Tampa led the entire third game, putting Lynn in a 10-4 hole early. In similar fashion to the previous stanza the Fighting Knights came back, this time with a 4-0 spree to make it a one point game at 14-13. The Spartans responded with five of the next seven points to force a Lynn timeout at 19-15. Trailing 22-17 the Blue & White out everything they had into a three-point run, but Tampa responded with three of their own to end the contest.
