Block Party! Nelson-James Matches Career-High Six Blocks in Rout over Benedict

BOCA RATON, Fla- Lynn University's women's basketball team (4-4) ended its home tournament on a high-note with an 82-57 win over Benedict (5-2) on Sunday afternoon. The Fighting Knights were led by Sharneka McCatty who had a game-high 16 points. Charla Nelson-James recorded her first double-double of the season in the win with 12 points and 13 rebounds while matching her career record for blocks with six.

It was a four-point game for the majority of the first half until a 7-0 run by the Blue & White gave Lynn a 22-15 lead with 6:30 remaining. A tip-in by Nelson-James at 4:58 gave the Fighting Knights a 10-point lead but the Tigers rallied back with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to bring the score within one, 25-24, at 2:57. The Blue & White once again pulled away to lead 36-26 at the break.

Lynn scored 18 points in the pain and shot 42.3 percent from the field holding BC to 22.2 percent and 12 turnovers. However, Benedict edged Lynn 24-21 in rebounds. McCatty scored a half-high 10 points while Nelson-James had eight points and seven rebounds.

The Blue & White was dominant in the second half, leading by no less than 10 points for the final 16 minutes of action. The Fighting Knights held their largest lead of 32, 80-48, at the three minute mark. Lynn's bench scored 22 points in the half with Isidora Madzarevic having a team-high eight points.

Lynn shot 62.1 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes and recorded 17 assists, seven of which were by Zachara Bailey who had a season-high eight assists. Benedict once again held a slight advantage in rebounds, 25-23, but Nelson-James' six defensive rebounds in the half proved to be vital.

The Fighting Knights had four players score in double figures while not one member of the Tigers lineup had more than eight points. Madzarevic and Destiny Brown each had season-best games with 12 points and 11 points respectively. The Blue & White's offense shot 52.7 percent from the floor overall and connected on 21-of-29 free throws in the win.

The Fighting Knights will have a little over a week's rest before they return to host Palm Beach Atlantic on December 31, for a New Year's Eve matinee. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
