Lynn Men's Basketball Falls at Home to Tampa

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's men's basketball team (7-15) lost, 66-60, at home to Tampa (15-7) on Saturday. The Fighting Knights fall to 1-11 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Spartans advance to 8-5. Lynn was led offensively by Fred Landers who had 17 points, 15 of which came in the first half. 

Landers scored the first nine points for the Blue & White as the lead changed eight times in the opening minutes. Herb Thomas made a fast break layup at 8:44 to put the Knights up 20-18, a lead they would hold heading until the buzzer sounded to end the half with the Fighting Knights leading 32-26.

Lynn shot 50 percent from the field in the opening half while holding the Spartans to 41.7 percent. Landers led all scorers with 15 points while blocking two shots and pulling down three rebounds.

The Fighting Knights came out hot in the second half, taking its largest lead by ten with 10:10 to play. Tampa would ignite a 14-4 run over the next three minutes to tie the game 51-all with 7:32 remaining. Eric Mores made a free throw followed by a fast break dunk in the next possession to give Tampa a three-point lead, 56-53, with just over five minutes left in regulation. The Spartans would hold off Lynn to earn their eighth SSC win of the season. 

Tampa improved to 42.3 percent from the field while the Blue & White shot just 37 percent. Overall Lynn shot 43.1 percent in the loss and 85.7 percent from the free throw line. The Fighting Knights scored 25 points off the bench and 11 on second-chance opportunities. 

Brandon Smith joined Landers in double-digit scoring with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists while Pavle Raickovic had nine points, five rebounds and two blocks.
