Box Score Saint Leo, Fla. – A trio of players scored in double-digits but it was not enough as Lynn University's women's basketball team fell 95-64 to Saint Leo on Saturday afternoon. Tylar Tracy and Zachara Bailey shared the team-lead in scoring with 15 points apiece on a combined 10-of-20 shooting while Tracy just missed out on a double-double with eight rebounds. The Fighting Knights drop to 11-13 overall and 4-10 in the Sunshine State Conference.
It was an exciting opening 10 minutes of play as the two teams combined on six ties and six lead changes in a 19-19 game. The Blue & White showed tenacity against the Lions (17-7, 8-6 SSC), draining shots all over the court to keep up with Saint Leo's high-powered attack.
Tracy would hit the first of her three shots from beyond the arc five minutes into play to put Lynn on top 9-6 and Sharneka McCatty knocked down two more from downtown as the Fighting Knights built a 19-18 lead with 10:02 to play.
Saint Leo, though, went on a 16-5 lead over a four minute and 20 second span to pull ahead 34-23 with 5:40 to play. Despite Lynn's best advances, it ended the half trailing by nine, 41-32, while shooting 36.7 percent from the field and 44.4 percent in three-point range.
An 18-6 run by the Lions to begin the second half put the Blue & White on their heels and forced them into shots from beyond 21 feet. Lynn hit 6-of-15 shots from downtown in the period but it was too little too late.
McCatty added 14 points for Lynn while Isidora Madzarevic scored nine points and chipped in three blocked shots. Ashlin Gross scored a game-high 17 points for Saint Leo, one of five players in double-figures. Chelsea Connelly and Keishara Green each tallied double-doubles for SLU.
Lynn ended the game shooting 38.3 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from three-point range and 88.9 percent from the free-throw line while Saint Leo hit 49.4 percent of its shots, 36.8 percent from downtown and 66.7 percent at the line.
