Volleyball Sweeps Barry for First Conference Win

Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball earned their first Sunshine State Conference win of the 2014 season Friday night when they bested rival-Barry 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-23) at the de Hornle Center. With the win Lynn improves to 5-5 and 1-2 in SSC play.

Elyse Fleck logged double-digit kills for the eighth time this season with 10 on a .471 clip. Lydia West followed with nine kills, five coming in the deciding set. Katie Knight provided a balanced performance with eight kills and eight digs in the win.

Defensively Nikki Haben paced the team with 12 kills, followed by Morgan Dulaney with nine. As a unit the Fighting Knights had nine total blocks with West leading the squad with six blocks assisted. Marissa Tandron ended the night with 30 assists, five digs and five blocks assisted.

The Blue & White were the first on the scoreboard before an early Barry rally put Lynn behind 3-7. The home team trailed the majority of the set until an attack error by Jayla Trombley of the Buccaneers propelled Lynn to a 21-20 advantage. With the score knotted again at 24-24 Fleck and Tandron had back-to-back kills to put end the set. The final two kills were a part of Lynn's game-high 16 kills in the set.

In the second stanza both sides went back-and-fourth in the beginning, but after trailing 9-10 Lynn used a pair of 3-0 runs to go ahead 15-11. The Fighting Knights were able to maintain the lead for the remainder of the frame to put the team one win away from victory. Lynn posted a .333 hitting percentage in the set, their highest of the night.

Neither team could get a comfortable lead in the finale as no team lead by more than two the entire set. A pair of Barry attacking errors sealed the Buccaneer's fate while giving Lynn the sweep. The Fighting Knights defense held the opposition to a .056 hitting percentage in the clinching contest.

The Fighting Knights wrap-up the weekend with another home contest versus Nova Southeastern, first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.  Catch all of the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive updates by following @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
