Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's women's basketball team Eckerd on Saturday afternoon in the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center to move to 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the Sunshine State Conference. Destiny Brown had a team-high and career-high 16 points for the Blue & White. Lynn's next contest will be on the road against Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, January 14.
The two teams exchanged baskets throughout the first half but Eckerd pulled ahead after a 15-0 run that spanned over four minutes to lead 39-24 with 4:07 to play. A jumper by Destiny Brown at 3:52 halted the Tritons run. EC and Lynn exchanged baskets throughout the final minutes of the half but Eckerd held on for a 15-point lead to head into the break ahead 45-30.
Lynn was led offensively by Brown who scored 10 points shooting five-for-seven from the field. The Fighting Knights edged EC 19-15 in rebounds but the Tritons shot 51.6 percent from the field with both Rana Thomas and Ivana Grbic scoring 13 and 12 points respectively.
Eckerd led by as many as 27, 74-47, with 10:43 to play. Lynn closed the deficit to 18 points with 5:38 remaining in the game with a tip-in by Sharneka McCatty. The Tritons, would hold off the Fighting Knights for a 22-point victory, 86-64.
Trine Kasemagi scored 17 points in the half for the visitors helping her team to shoot 50 percent from the field. McCatty had a team-best eight points for the Fighting Knights while Brown and Tylar Tracy both added six each.
Lynn shot 39.7 percent from the field in the loss and was edged 36-31 in rebounds by EC. Four Fighting Knights recorded at least three boards while Brown and McCatty both scored in double figures with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Lynn returns to action on Wednesday, January 14, at Palm Beach Atlantic. The Fighting Knights defeated the Sailfish earlier this season. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
