Women's Basketball Gets Bit by the Moccasins at Home

BOCA RATON, Fla-. Lynn University's women's basketball team had an offensive push in the second half of its Sunshine State Conference match up against Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon. Zachara Bailey and Tylar Tracy led the Blue & White with 16 points each as the Fighting Knights fell 90-85 to FSC. Lynn falls to 7-9 overall and 1-6 in conference action as the Mocs improve to 9-7 overall and 3-4 in the SSC.

Florida Southern got off to a 8-4 lead with 17:24 on the clock and the Fighting Knights took their first lead, 11-10, at 14:41 with a pair of free throws by Charla Nelson-James. Lynn put together a 9-2 run to lead by five, 17-12, with 13:06 remaining in the half. The Mocs responded and took a seven-point lead, 27-20, with 9:06 on the clock. Florida Southern would hold on to the lead throughout the final minutes of the half to lead 40-36 at halftime.

Both teams shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half. Tracy led the Fighting Knights with nine points while McCatty had a team-best six rebounds. FSC's leading scorer was Cashala Thompson with 14 points. Florida Southern edged Lynn 23-17 in rebounds and shot 45.5 percent from three-point range.

Lynn trailed by as many 11, 49-38, in the opening minutes of the second half. FSC led by as many as 13 but the Blue & White battled back to bring the game within four, 79-75, after a trey from Tifani Kerrison. The two teams would exchange fouls as the Mocs held off Lynn to win 90-85.

Bailey scored all 16 of her team-high points in the second half, a season-best performance for the junior guard. Kerrison added 12 points including a pair of treys in the half. Lynn improved to shoot 48.1 percent from the field and held FSC to 39.1 percent. The Fighting Knights took 29 trips to the charity stripe in the half, making 21 attempts to shoot 72.4 percent.

Four members of the Blue & White scored in double figures as the Fighting Knights shot 46.3 percent from the field in the loss. Lynn scored 40 points in the paint and scored 10 points on fast breaks. Nelson-James was a rebound shy of her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points, nine boards and a pair of blocks.
