Bailey Leads Fighting Knights but Lynn Comes Up Short on the Road

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.- Lynn University's women's basketball team fell 82-59 to Nova Southeastern in Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday night. Zachara Bailey had a team-high 14 points in the loss as the Blue & White moves to 7-14 overall and 1-11 in league play. Nova Southeastern jumped out to a 10- start but back-to-back three-pointers by Zachara Bailey and Tifani Kerrison had the Fighting Knights within four. Bailey took two consecutive trips to the free throw line to tie the game 10-all. NSU pulled ahead to lead by as many as 23 with 4:18 left in the half. Lynn closed the gap however, to trail 49-31 at the break. The Fighting Knights shot 43.5 percent from the field in the opening stanza but were no match for Jasmine Wilkins and her Sharks teammates who shot 58.6 percent from the field. Wilkins led all scorers with 18 points in the half. Lynn had just eight rebounds to Nova Southeastern's 18. Lynn's Zachara Bailey scored a team-high 10 points in the half with three steals. Lynn trailed by double-figures the entire second half, and despite closing the gap to 12 points twice, the Fighting Knights could not penetrate a single digit margin. NSU held its largest lead of 26, 82-56, with two minutes to go. The Sharks went on to defeat the Blue & White by 23 points to sweep Lynn in the SSC regular season for the third-straight year. Despite having just eight rebounds in the first half, Lynn improved to edge the Sharks 20-18 in boards for the second frame. Nelson-James had a team-high eight points in the second half to match NSU's leader Wilkins. Lynn shot 34.6 percent from the field and blocked three shots in the second stanza. Wilkins led all scorers with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Lynn's offense was paced by Bailey, who had 14 points, four assists and three steals helping the Fighting Knights to shoot 38.8 percent from the field. Nelson-James had ten points and five rebounds in the loss as the only other Knight in double-figures. The Blue & White returns home to host Saint Leo on Saturday, February 14. Game time is slated for 2 pm in the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center.
