Landers and Wilson Pace Men's Basketball in Regional Win

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Fred Landers and Russell Wilson combined for 44 of Lynn University's points in the Fighting Knights 92-80 win over Palm Beach Atlantic in non-conference play on Wednesday night. Landers led the team with 23 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks for his best performance of the season. Wilson recorded a career-high 21 points nine rebounds and three steals and connected on nine-of-ten shots from the free throw line.

Palm Beach Atlantic led by eight, 10-2, in the opening four minutes of the game. With Lynn's last outing against Saint Leo still fresh in their heads the Blue & White battled but found themselves trailing by 12, 18-6, at the 12:31 mark. A 15-4 run capped off with a Ben Berry three-pointer would put Lynn within one point, 22-21, with nine minutes to play. The two teams would exchange leads over the next four minutes but another trey by Berry at 4:04 gave the Blue & White its first lead of the game, 31-30. A last second layup in by Wilson tied the game 39-all headed into halftime.

Berry led the Fighting Knights with 12 points in the opening half shooting 4-for-8 from behind the arc. Wilson added eight points while Aaron Harrison had seven points and six rebounds. Lynn shot 41.2 percent from the field and held PBA to just 36.6 percent. The Fighting Knights edged PBA 27-23 in rebounds but were plagued by 12 turnovers.

At 17:11 Lynn took its biggest lead thus far, 48-44, with a pair of free throws from Landers. The Sailfish were relentless however, keeping it a two-possession game for most of the half and never falling out of reach. Successful trips to the charity stripe over the final two and a half minutes sealed the Fighting Knights 18th victory of the season.

Landers led all scorers in the second half with 19 points while Wilson chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds. The Blue & White shot 53.3 percent from the field in the second half and outscored PBA 53-41. The Sailfish improved to shoot 48.4 percent from the field in the second half and were led by Evin Graham who had nine points.

Lynn had four points score in double figures in the regional win and shot 46.9 percent from the field. As a team, Lynn had nine blocks and eight steals. Wilson and Harrison were both a rebound shy of double-double performances with 21 points and 14 points, respectively. Berry had 19 points, 15 of which came from downtown. David Johnson had seven points and a block as well.

The Fighting Knights improve to 18-5 overall and will return to action against No. 1 Florida Southern on Saturday, February 21. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 pm in Lakeland.
