Women's Basketball Falls to Rival Barry

Miami Shores, Fla.- Lynn University's women's basketball team lost on the road to Sunshine State Conference rival Barry, 81-58, on Wednesday night. The Fighting Knights fall to 7-17 overall and 1-14 in SSC play. Charla Nelson-James had a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds falling one board shy of a double-double. With the loss, Lynn and Barry split the regular season series as Barry improves to 13-14 overall and 5-10 in the SSC.

Barry jumped out to an early 8-2 lead by a 6-0 run by the Fighting Knights would knot the score at 8-all just after the first media timeout. With just under three minutes to play the Blue & White found itself in its biggest deficit of nine, but battled out to trail 26-24 at halftime.

Lynn shot 28.1 percent from the field and was led by Tylar Tracy who had a team-high nine points in the first half. Charla Nelson-James led with six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. The Bucs were led by Ashley Lutz who had eight points and two blocks. Barry shot 32.3 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three-point range.

A 12-2 run by the Buccaneers had Lynn trailing by 12, 38-26, at the 17:14 mark. Another run by Barry would give them a 17-point advantage with 11:25 to play after a trey by Antonia Neibler. The Fighting Knights trailed by its largest margin, 30, 77-47, with 2:28 left in regulation. Lynn went on to fall by 23 points to the SSC rival, 81-58.

Nelson-James had 14 points in the second half to lead all scorers. Lynn improved to shoot 45.2 percent from the field in the second half. However BU also improved to shoot 55.3 percent and made nine shots from downtown in the final frame.

Three members of the Blue & White squad scored in double figures with Nelson-James leading the way with 16 points and nine rebounds. Tracy and Tifani Kerrison both had 12 points while Tracy, Isidora Madzarevic and Jayde Sparks all had a team-high four assists. Shatorria Baker led the Fighting Knights with four steals in the loss. Jackie Perez led the way for the Bucs with a game-high 18 points while her teammate Nyjah Porcher had a triple-double with 12 points, 15 boards and 12 assists.

Lynn returns home for the final game of the regular season on Saturday, February 28, when the Fighting Knights play host to Florida Tech. Tip-off is set for 2 pm following a brief ceremony honoring Lynn's four seniors, Lakendra Jones, Sharneka McCatty, Jayde Sparks and Tracy.
