Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla- Nina Guillaume's career-high 23 points couldn't lift Lynn University's women's basketball team past Tampa on Wednesday night as the Fighting Knights fell, 76-45, to the Spartans. Lynn falls to 7-12 overall and 1-9 in Sunshine State Conference play and will hit the road to St. Petersburg, Fla., on Saturday for a league game against Eckerd.
Tampa jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the opening half. Shatorria Baker made a pair of free throws to end a seven minute scoring drought with six and a half minutes to play in the half. Sharneka McCatty put in two to cut Lynn's deficit to ten, 20-10, at 6:01. The Spartans held on to lead 35-14 at the break.
Tampa shot 43.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. Lynn shot 17.6 percent from the field and was held to 14 points with McCatty and Guillaume each had four points. Charla Nelson-James logged five rebounds and a pair of blocks in the opening stanza. UT held a slight 23-21 advantage in rebounds and Juliana Cavallaro led all scorers with 12 points shooting 4-for-6 from three-point range.
Guillaume erupted in the second half with 19 points to lead the Fighting Knights offense. The Blue & White improved to shoot 33.3 percent from the field in the second half but Tampa also improved shooting 52 percent. Cavallaro had 12 points again to lead all scorers with a game-high 24 points. Isidora Madzarevic blocked three shots for the Fighting Knights and Tylar Tracy had a team-best six rebounds.
