HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • First Quarter: After failing to win the opening tip, Sailfish guard Janelle Cannon came away with the game's first basket. PBA recorded the first four points of the game, but Lynn took their first lead with a Maddie Herr floater. Cannon and Nkiru Anyagaligbo each tallied six points as PBA went on a 13-5 run to end the quarter with a 17-11 advantage.
  • Second Quarter: Tifani Kerrison scored the first three points of the second stanza, andZachara Bailey regained the Lynn lead by knocking down a shot from beyond the arc. Six different Fighting Knights tickled the bottom of the twine, and Lynn committed just one turnover. The Blue and White carried a 30-27 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
  • Third Quarter: The first five minutes of the second half saw the two teams exchange missed opportunities and turnovers, but Lynn was able to extend their lead to as many as six. Herr and Shaunt'e Tucker combined for eight points and 12 rebounds, but Cannon converted a three-point play in the closing minute of the quarter to cut the deficit to two. Lynn never trailed in the third quarter, and the home team led 43-41 heading into the final frame.
  • Fourth Quarter:  Neither team wasted time in the fourth quarter, as both the Sailfish and Fighting Knights scored within the first 30 seconds. Palm Beach Atlantic tied the game two minutes into the final period, erasing a lead that Lynn had claimed for more than 13 minutes. Anyagaligbo's second chance effort extended the PBA lead to four with six minutes to play, and the Sailfish never looked back. Lynn was forced to foul in the final 20 seconds, and the Sailfish emerged as 60-53 victors.

QUOTABLE:

  • "We started off playing well and went on a good run early, but we started to play tight again in the fourth quarter. We missed some easy shots and turned the ball over, which doesn't help when the game is close. We are in the battle with every team we play, but we have to figure out how to play with some aggression toward the end of the game. Florida Southern is playing really well right now, but we're excited to have another challenge on Saturday. Hopefully, we can stay positive, play to the wire with them and pull out a win." - Lynn head coach Julia Huddleston

STATS FROM THE GAME:

  • Maddie Herr finished the night as Lynn's leading scorer with 12 points, Bria while Huffman followed with nine. Tucker and Bailey chipped in eight apiece.
  • Cannon led all scorers in points (19) and rebounds (12) to complete the double-double. Tucker joined Cannon as the only players to record at least ten rebounds.
  • Lynn won the turnover battle 22-20, but PBA outrebounded their hosts 42-41.
  • Huffmann and Tucker each blocked a shot, the only two of the night.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Cannon's double-double was her second in her last five games.
