HOW IT HAPPENED:
Match 1
  • Set 1 | After getting off to a slow start, the Fighting Knights dialed in and put away the opening frame quickly behind a dominant 18-4 tear. Lydia West and Cristina Llorens dropped three kills each while Marissa Tandron picked up seven early digs. Union, who hit in the negatives for the frame, went to its bench early as 14 different Bulldogs saw the floor in the opener.
  • Set 2 | The Fighting Knights struggled a bit offensively but found a way to pull out a two-point victory. Lynn grabbed the first four points of the period, but the sides were neck-and-neck the rest of the way. Nicol Colonna and Cleuza Porto provided the offensive firepower in the second.
  • Set 3 | The Blue & White had its most efficient hitting frame of the match at .323 but the Union offense also picked it up in the third to make the sweep a tougher task. Lynn took control of the lead after a 15-15 tie and closed out for the win. Porto and West combined for eight kills with libero Katie Knight securing seven digs.

Match 2

  • Set 1 | Colonna started off the match with an ace as the Fighting Knights grabbed the first edge. Lynn regained control following a 15-15 tie and spread the ball around for a handful of kills to secure the first stanza.
  • Set 2 | The Fighting Knights displayed discipline in the second frame, committing just one attack error while hitting .529. A 10-3 run to open up the scoring gave Lynn enough cushion for a comfortable triumph. Tandron was a force at the line with four aces.
  • Set 3 | Lynn closed out on a 5-1 spurt to secure the sweep. Tandron dished out 16 assists in the period, setting up Porto to slam six kills on eight swings.
STATS OF THE DAY:
  • West and Porto provided the volume on offense, combining for 42 kills on the day.
  • Claire Angelich posted four blocks in each match while hitting over .500 on offense both times out.
