Box Score Tampa, Fla. – A second consecutive Top-25 road opponent was too tall a task for the Lynn University volleyball team on Friday night as the Fighting Knights fell at 22nd-ranked University of Tampa in Sunshine State Conference action, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Set 1 | Lynn grabbed the first two points of the night but Tampa controlled the advantage for the remainder of the frame. A 7-2 run following a timeout opening up the scoring for the home side to grab an 18-11 lead before Tampa closed out the game on a 7-1 tear behind a trio of kills from Allee Stelogeannis, giving the senior nine in the opener.
- Set 2 | Tampa carried over the momentum and rushed out to a 10-2 edge. Lynn regrouped with a timeout as Marissa Tandron led the Blue and White on a 5-0 run from the service line. The Spartans seized a small cushion the rest of the way to grab a 2-0 lead in the match. Nicol Colonna got hot late and finished the stanza with five kills on six swings.
- Set 3 | The Fighting Knights took the first advantage at 5-2, but the Spartans responded on a 7-1 run. Lynn would eventually knot up a handful of tie scores throughout the period, but was unable to jump back out in front as Tampa closed out the match in three. Lydia West bounced four kills and posted the only block of the match for Lynn.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
- Colona paced the offense with 10 kills at a .300 clip and chipped in six digs on defense.
- West (.353) and Cleuza Porto each put away eight kills, while Claire Angelich dropped five with a .500 hitting percentage.
- Libero Katie Knight led the back line with 17 digs, while setter Marissa Tandron posted six with 27 assists and two aces.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Lynn at Tampa was the only volleyball contest played around the league tonight due to hurricane postponements.
- In the national rankings, Tampa is knotted in a tie at No. 22 with fellow SSC member Florida Southern. The Fighting Knights took down the Mocs last weekend.
- Last season, Lynn defeated then No. 1-ranked Tampa at home in five sets to mark the first victory over the Spartans in program history. Tampa had won 59 straight SSC matches before the loss to Lynn, dating back to 2011. Lynn head coach Adam Milewski is one of three active SSC coaches that have ever tallied a win over Tampa.
- Lynn suffered its first three-set loss of the season and is now 4-1 in three-set matches this year.
- The squad's one total block is a season-low and the least since 11/19/12 at Eckerd.
