Dig Party! Volleyball Buries Florida Southern for Season Sweep

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University seems to play its best volleyball this season when staring down the Scarlet and White as the Fighting Knights swept a talented Florida Southern squad for the second time this year on Friday night. Lynn finished with 77 digs on defense, the most for the program in a three-set match in over 13 years.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Set 1 | The Fighting Knights made a statement that they came to play right out of the gate with a quick 5-0 run that sent the Mocs into a timeout. Lynn extended its lead to 10 (18-8) and rode the attack of Lydia West and Cristina Llorens (five kills each) for a first-set victory.
  • Set 2 | Set two was much tighter with eight tie scores, however FSC's lead at 4-3 would be its only of the period. At 19-19, Lynn remained resilient down the stretch, closing out on a 6-1 tear. Claire Angleich had the hot hand in frame two, tallying six kills on eight swings with no errors. Both sides had their best hitting stanzas of the night.
  • Set 3 | Lynn controlled the entirety of the third set as well, taking over at 5-4 and never looking back. Morgan Dulaney got involved in the offense with four kills, while the liberos on both sides of the net each notched double-digit digs in a defensive battle. Lynn tallied 36 digs and four blocks in the final frame.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Lynn featured a balanced attack for the second time in the last three outings and hit .212 for the match.
  • Llorens led the way with 10 kills, followed by West with nine (.389), Angelich with eight (.238), Nicol Colonna with seven (.375) and Dulaney chipping in six late in the match.
  • Katie Knight boasted a match-high 22 digs while her and Angelich swung in two aces apiece. Colonna's 18 digs was her second-highest output this season while Llorens rounded out her double-double with 14.
  • Angelich led the floor with four blocks while Marissa Tandron assisted on three stuffs and handed out 41 assists.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The defense finished with 77 digs, the program's ninth most all-time in a three-set match and the most since 2003.
  • Lynn swept FSC in Lakeland earlier this season when the Mocs were ranked No. 21 in the country.
  • With four on the night, Angelich passes Sophie Gagnon '10 and moves into second all-time in career block assists.
  • In the earlier matchup at FSC, Angelich became the school's all-time leader in career solo blocks.
  • The Mocs had won nine straight matchups coming into the 2016 season.

Lynn remains home this weekend with a 4 p.m. matchup against Eckerd College on Saturday, Nov. 5.
