Women's Basketball Edged in Final Seconds

Daytona Beach, Fla. – After trailing the majority of the game, the Lynn University women's basketball team missed a game-winning opportunity in the final two seconds, and were edged by the Embry-Riddle Eagles 64-63 Saturday night. Three Fighting Knights scored in double-digits, led by a season-high 18 points from senior transfer Marta Oledzka.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Oledzka led the Fighting Knights' scoring effort for the first time this season. The senior center recorded her fifth double-digit scoring output, and finished with 18 points (9-of-12 from the floor) in 17 minutes of action.
  • Paola Vazquez Concepcion and Jaylen Snipes were the other two members in the Blue and White to score in double figures with 14 and 11 respectively.
  • Janay Williams keeps crashing the boards at a high-level this season, leading the squad once again with 10 boards. She came near a double-double with seven points to add to the stat sheet.
  • Mariah Penaascino and Brekia Henderson contributed six and seven points as well. Playing, but not scoring, was Shaunt'e Tucker, Mahogany Hall and Meagan Shanahan.
  • This game was a battle in the post, as the leading scorer for the Eagles was Laniere Coleman, who finished the game with a team- and game-high 20 points to go along with eight rebounds and two rejections.

  

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Vazquez Concepcion's 14 points extends her scoring streak in double figures to six straight and she has been the team's leading scorer six times this season.
  • Snipes has tied her season-high in minutes played in two straight outings, with 32.
  • Eagles' Coleman broke her single-game high in scoring against Lynn two straight years, in 2015 with 13 and 2016 with 20.
 

UP NEXT:
Lynn will head back home after a one-game stint on the road. The Fighting Knights will host Saint Leo on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
