Sharks Take Bite Out of Women's Basketball on Senior Night

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University women's basketball trailed 11-0 in the first 6:34, and never took a lead as the Nova Southeastern Sharks escaped the De Hoernle Center with a win on the home squad's Senior Day Wednesday night. The four seniors that were honored, Brekia Henderson, Shaunt'e Tucker, Nina Guillaume and Marta Oledzka all contributed, scoring 36 of the Fighting Knights's 58 points. Guillaume enjoyed a special moment, coming in with just seconds remaining and hitting a three from the corner to close out her career at home in the Blue and White.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Seniors left their mark on senior night, scoring 62% of the team's points.
  • Oledzka flirted with a double-double, putting the ball in the basket three times, adding three at the line and scored nine points to go along with a team-high 11 rebounds.
  • Henderson and Tucker led the Blue and White with 11 and 13 points, respectively.
  • As it has been all season, the defensive effort from the home team was high-pressure and caused nine steals, as opposed to the visiting team's four.
  • The Fighting Knights played excellent defense at the rim as well, rejecting the ball eight times from four different players; Oledzka led the team with five, but Tucker Penascino and Vazquez Concepcion each had a block to compliment her.
  • Christine Prasse has been a threat all season for teams opposing Nova Southeastern, and she struck again, scoring a game-high 20 points, and the only other member of the Sharks to reach double-digits was Samantha Logan with 10.
 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Every member of the Blue and White that stepped on the court scored at least two points.
  • Williams, who typically leads the team on the boards, was limited to just one rebound and two points.
  • The Fighting Knights have played well at home all season, finishing 7-5 at the de Hoernle Center.
  • Guillaume's three as time expired caused a standing ovation and a nice positive to end senior day. Last game she logged time was Nov. 22 versus Tuskegee.
  • Oledzka's five blocks mark a new season-high for the 2017 campaign.
 

UP NEXT:
The Fighting Knights will hit the road for the final regular season contest with a tough test against Tampa. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
