Men's Basketball Claims Conference Opener in Chippy Local Clash

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Fighting Knights didn't let 33 fouls called against them get in the way of a wire-to-wire victory as the Lynn University men's basketball team defeated Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday night, 86-70, in both team's Sunshine State Conference opener.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Sophomore Brandon Bornelus returned to his freshman-year form in his second appearance of the season, leading all players in the game with 21 points. He knocked down four triples and went 5-of-6 at the line while adding two assists and two steals.
  • Michael Baez also saw four bombs land from long range as the senior put up 18 points. Baez rounded out a solid game with a career-high four steals, six boards and two helpers.
  • Rasheed Worrell smashed his previous career-high, dishing out six assists from the low block. He dropped in 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting and secured four rebounds.
  • Guards Jamal Palmer and Darius Moore rounded out Lynn's five players in double figures with 10 points each. Moore continues to shoot efficiently from long range, going 2-of-3 outside the arc.
  • Daniel Cooper matched Baez's team-high six rebounds while tacking on three assists, three points and a steal.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • The Fighting Knights won their conference opener for the first time since the 2014-15 season. That year was also the last time Lynn started off the season 5-0.
  • Lynn has now won three consecutive matchups over the Sailfish, beating PBA last year at home, 87-82, and on the road, 75-73.
  • The last time Lynn had 33 fouls called against them was vs. Florida Tech in 2016. There was a combined 54 fouls called tonight.
  • Lynn is the only undefeated team in the league with five or more wins.
  • Worrell's six assists tonight marks 26% of his total season output last season when he recorded 26 assists in 27 games. He had never tallied more than two assists in a game prior to tonight.
  • The Sailfish averaged over 15 steals per game coming into tonight, which was the second-highest mark in the country. Lynn only surrendered eight to the 'Fish tonight.
