Hombach scores twice to lead the Fighting Knights to a 3-1 win

St. Leo, Florida - Lukas Hombach scored twice to help the Fighting Knights pick up their second win in a row and lock up the third seed in the SSC Tournament.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • The first half saw a few opportunities but no goals. In the second half, it was the Lions who broke through first, finding the back of the net in the 52nd minute to take the 1-0 lead.
  • The goal woke the Fighting Knights up, as not even six minutes later, Hombach found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was assisted by Michael Knoetzinger who recorded his first point as a Fighting Knight.
  • In the 73rd minute, Ali Koller scored his second goal of the season off a pass from Jake Jensen to put the Fighting Knights ahead for good.
  • In the 87th minute, Hombach added a second goal to give the Fighting Knights some breathing room.
  • Hombach and Kyle Patton led the Fighting Knights with three shots on goal each. In all, Lynn outshot the Lions 16-8 and recorded eight shots on goal compared to five.
  • Patrick Nettekoven stopped four of the five shots he faced.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • With his two goals tonight, Hombach now leads the Fighting Knights with six goals. He's tied for eighth in the conference.
  • No matter what happens in Tuesday's season finale, the Fighting Knights will end up as the number three seed in the SSC Tournament. Now it's just about finding out who they will be hosting on Nov. 8 at Bobby Campbell Stadium.

The Fighting Knights return home for Senior Day on Tuesday, Nov. 2 where they will take on Florida Tech at 6 p.m. in the regular-season finale.
