Udovcic leads the Fighting Knights past the Tars

Boca Raton, Florida - On a night where the Lynn University family celebrated a champion, the women's volleyball team put up a championship-like performance as they completed a season-sweep of Rollins.

STATS OF THE MATCH:

  • The Fighting Knights jumped out to a 19-15 lead in the first set, but the Tars put together a 5-0 run to take the 20-19 lead. Tied at 24, the Tars took the lead 25-24, but Sonja Udovcic scored a huge point to tie the set back up. Lynn was able to put the game away 28-26 and take the 1-0 lead.
  • In the second set, the Fighting Knights put together one of the most impressive runs in volleyball this season, when they jumped out to a 16-0 lead behind 15 serves in a row from Udovcic, including three aces. The Fighting Knights would go on to win the set 25-8, matching their best performance in a single set this season.
  • Lynn didn't mess around in set three, putting together another massive run to take a 17-4 lead and put the game well out of reach. They would ultimately take the set 25-13 to take the match 3-0.
  • Udovcic recorded eight kills and a season-high hit percentage of .538. She also tallied 12 digs, the second-most on the team.
  • Nadia Lindner once again led the team in kills, this time putting up 12. Riley Nieporte was right behind her with nine kills, her second-best mark of the season.
  • Lauren Odom recorded four kills on five attacks, and she tallied three blocks.
  • Emily Edwards led the team in assists with 25. She also picked up six digs.
  • Ruth Zijlstra once again led the team in digs, this time recording 19.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Fighting Knights didn't drop a set to the Tars this season. In their two matches, they went a combined 6-0.
  • The 16-0 run to start the second set was the longest streak by the Fighting Knights this season.
  • The large crowd in attendance for tonight's volleyball match got to witness history both on the court and in the rafters, as the Lynn family honored women's golf national champion Helen Kreuzer between the second and third sets. 

UP NEXT:
The Fighting Knights will look to avenge a loss from earlier in the season when they take on Embry-Riddle tomorrow at 4 p.m.
