Philson scores 18 as the Fighting Knights defeat Kentucky Wesleyan 59-52

Lakeland, Florida – The Fighting Knights put together an impressive second half to secure a victory against a tough Kentucky Wesleyan team.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • In the first quarter, Lynn jumped out to a 15-13 advantage, with Trinity Edwards and Kennedi Philson combining for 10 points.
  • Philson kept it going in the second quarter, and secured 12 of her career-high 18 points in the first half alone. Her strong performance helped the Fighting Knights go into the half down just one.
  • Lynn came out in the second half and put their imprint on the game by winning the third and fourth quarter by a combined eight points while shooting 82 percent from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes.
  • Philson's 18 led the team, and she also led the way with eight rebounds. Edwards finished as the second-leading scorer for Lynn with 13 points.
  • Dani Lozzi led the team with six assists, and she scored six points, all of which came in the fourth quarter. Lozzi also led the team with three steals.
  • The Fighting Knights hit their last three field-goal attempts to put the game out of reach. 
  • While Lynn didn't lead in many categories, their work on the boards was their key to victory. They outrebounded Kentucky Wesleyan 41-25 overall. In all, the Fighting Knights pulled down 12 more defensive and four more offensive rebounds than the Panthers.
  • The Fighting Knights also knocked down 13-15 free throws, their best percentage of the season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Fighting Knights ended a three-game losing streak by holding off Kentucky Wesleyan late. Earlier this season, the Panthers were ranked, and they just dropped out of the rankings prior to this game.
